Roa de Duero (Burgos), 4th of June 2025, Bodegas López Cristóbal, Ribera del Duero :
We are delighted to share with you that three of our wines won a gold medal : La Colorada 2022 and Bagús 2021, and a Great Gold medal : Viracocha 2020, in the Zarcillo International Wine Awards 2025.
Since 1991, each edition of the Zarcillo International Wine Awards has rewarded the hard work and dedication of producers who have left an indelible mark on the international wine scene thanks to their wines.
At each edition, the participating wines are assessed by a panel of world-renowned tasters, experts with the most demanding palates and professionals with proven expertise in the sector. The rigorous selection process ensures that the winning samples are the finest representation of excellence in the wine industry in both Spain and the rest of the world.
Viracocha 2020 won the highest accolade award, a Great Gold Zarcillo , reserved to a select group of wines of superior quality and international prestige.
Viracocha is elaborated with grapes coming from a single vineyard of Tinta del País (Tempranillo), grown in bush-trained vines situated in the Pago de Machín in Pedrosa de Duero. These 80 year old vines grow on franco-calcareous soils with a clay base. Following traditional artisanal methods, the wine undergoes whole grape fermentation in open tanks. It is aged during 14th month in French oak barrels, and others 18 month in bottle. The result is a wine of dark colour, powerful on the palate, but delicate at the same time, with a great harmony of tannins.
La Colorada 2022 y Bagús 2021 won a Gold Zarcillo, standing out their excellence.
López Cristóbal La Colorada is made from Tempranillo vines from the La Colorada Estate and is produced as a Crianza. It’s vibrant, with a fruity expression, smooth on the palate, attractive, and fresh.
Bagús stands out as one of López Cristóbal’s most exceptional wines. The grapes are sourced from a 90-year-old vineyard in Roa, specifically in the Pago de Manvirgo, on a calcareous soil. Fermentation at 28ºC, aged 14 month in French and American oak, with 18 additional months in bottle allow to obtain a fruity and complex wine on the palate, powerful but refined, with hints of vanilla, chocolate, and cocoa.
